River Hills Foxhounds
                                                       Fall Updates

Whether you are landowner, subscriber, car follower, mounted, or on foot, or even the
occasional passersby, it is always a great pleasure to share our hounds and sport. We have
planned seventeen exciting meets through November, and we hope to see a lot of people on our
Thanksgiving Day Hunt at the Red Pump Meet. As a reminder, November 30th through
December 13th we will not being hunting due to the ‘rifle’ deer hunting season. Make sure you
get out and enjoy the fall weather before it gets chilly!
If you missed our Opening Day on October 31st, you sure did miss a great hunt! We had
some nice foxes that stayed afoot at the Down Patrick Meet taking us from the meet, to the
‘Old House’, down along the ‘Palisades’, across to ’Herr’s Point’, along the Furness Road, across to
the ‘Tree Farm’ and back to the meet again! The hounds gave their best to not be ‘out foxed‘,
and did a wonderful job of showing everyone great sport.  After hunting we were thankful to
use the ‘Piggery’ to enjoy sandwiches, cheese, hot cider, and always lots of desserts after the
hunt!
On November 2nd, we took out the first of our puppies, ‘Ivan’ born in April. We had
some really great foxes at the Funnel Lake Meet that day, leaving ‘Ivan’ a bit in the middle, not
fit enough to run with the ‘big dogs’ but able to get  out there and try to see what all that
sniffing is about. The plan is to take a puppy out every meet to have them entered in the pack
slowly. So, as a reminder these days as your out hunting be aware of the new guys, Ivan, Indy,
Iceman, Isaac, and the little girl, Izzy. The puppies are usually marked with a red or blue,
reflector collar. If puppies come near your horse please use your voice, and say ‘Ware Horse’
and/or let your whip dangle to the ground so they know to steer clear of horses legs. One more
bit of exciting news is that we received special Birthday Puppies on MHF Jim Paxson’s
Birthday. On October 17th we were so lucky to have five fat and healthy pups named Jacob,
Jessie, Joaquin, Journey and Jewels!
Every year as the River Hills Hunt grows and grows older we look back at all the great
hunting memories, the hounds that started us off, the new puppies that are born, and the great
friendships that we have created, and we see how much there is to be thankful for. However, it
sometimes goes without voice, we are certainly most thankful for your support!

Let the hunting season begin - Tally ho!
